Media Buying & User Acquisition Policy
Introduction
As a leader in web destinations and desktop software, we attract and interact with our users according to consistent guidelines regarding software installation, behavior and removal.
We expect that the firms we buy media from comply with the following guidelines and extend this policy to their marketing partners and affiliates:
Installation
All partners using downloadable applications as part of their network should present users with a product description in easy-to-understand language that appears at or close to the point of download. The download should only take place after the consumer has received easy-to-understand notice that software will be installed and the user has accepted the download.
The company should exert best efforts to maintain control over how its products are marketed and delivered to consumers. Products should always be presented under the company's brands. They should not be distributed by third(-)party download networks unless such distribution is done according to these guidelines and can be effectively monitored by the company we are advertising with.
Behavior
Web destinations and desktop software should not collect personal information and should not track individual browsing behavior without meaningful disclosure and clear user permission.
All desktop software applications offered for download and any advertisements which are delivered outside of a consumer's browser window, such as pop-ups, should be identified with the applicable providers' brands.
Removal
Desktop software should be easily identified with the provider's brands within the industry standard Microsoft Windows Add/Remove interface.
It should be simple for a consumer to completely remove or install a provider's desktop software via the industry standard Microsoft Windows Add/Remove interface available on the user desktop at: Start/Settings/Control Panel. Software providers should clearly identify all programs and applications that will be removed as part of any uninstall and such application should never automatically reinstall itself once removed.
